（北海26日讯）槟城大桥并没有发生龟裂，结构安全！
今早槟城大桥严重堵塞，有民众在路过大桥6.7公里处，因见中间车道出现一道小缝隙而引来龟裂疑云，经本报记者询问掌管工程基本设施及交通委员会的州行政议员林峰成，才获悉原来大桥龟裂只是一场误会！林峰成说，大桥出现的所谓龟裂缝 隙，只是大桥所组装的伸缩间隙板因为气候关系需要更换，而非外传大桥龟裂。
遇冷则缩 遇热膨胀
“大桥的结构也受‘遇冷则缩，遇热则膨胀’的科学特性所影响，所以必须要留有一定的缝隙并装上伸缩间隙板，作为冲缓地带，以免气候变迁影响大桥安全性。”
而如今坊间盛传的大桥龟裂，只是当局顾虑伸缩板因连日来天气转冷，冲缓地带间隔发挥收缩特性而变得有点大，轿车及摩托车骑士路过时会产生颠簸，当局为了公路使用者安全，而招来承包商做列常的更换间隙板工程。
GEORGE TOWN: A metal plate covering the expansion joint on the Penang Bridge became detached causing a massive traffic jam on the island-bound route on Tuesday.
Motorists were caught in a bumper-to-bumper traffic stretching over eight kilometers heading to George Town after the metal plate came off between the 6.5km and 6.7km stretch.
Workers have been carrying out remedial work at the middle lane of the three-lane route.
Penang Public Works, Utilities, and Transport Committee chairman Lim Hock Seng said the metal plate became detected at about 10.37am.
He assured motorists that there was no structural defect to the bridge.
Operations officer at the North-South Expressway Traffic Control Centre, Amran Ahmad, told Bernama they were waiting for further reports from the contractor.
“We are forced to close the middle section of one of the lanes,” he added.
He advised motorists to plan their journey by taking alternative routes to avoid being trapped in the traffic congestion on the bridge.
